The Department of Mathematics this year hosted the Annual planning meeting for the ongoing SIDA funded cooperation between NUR and Swedish partner universities (LiU: Applied Mathematics, Education; BTH: Library, ICT; KI and The Sahlgrenska Academy: Medicine; GU: Peace and Conflict, Environment). The meeting took place 25.10 - 27.10 at Hotell Ekoxen with 36 participants from SIDA, NUR and the Swedish partners. The NUR Rector Silas Lwakabamba headed the NUR delegation.
The work focused on the summation of results obtained in the current four year project period, ending Dec 31 2010, and, since the project period will be extended to 2011- 2012, on the application for the extension period. An important issue for the discussion was also the forthcoming application for the period 2013 - 2016, which is planned to involve also some new subjects, e.g., business and management, agriculture, law and statistics. It was decided to publish a monthly newsletter, a manual for arriving PhD students and an annual plan, listing important events and deadlines.
In particular, the application for 2011- 2012 for Applied Mathematics was thoroughly discussed together with the NUR project coordinator Raymond Ndikumana and the team leader Frodouald Minani. Among other things it will include teaching at NUR by LiU lectures in five MSc courses per year, recruitment of LiU supervisors of MSc theses at NUR and visits to LiU by the MSc students in order to finalize their theses, recruitment of two new PhD students, and organization of the International Modeling Week 2011 and 2012 at NUR. |
